Ingredients

For the patties
  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
  • 1 large Egg (Beaten)
  • 1 medium Onion (Finely diced)
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
For the gravy
  • 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted) Use unsalted for better control over flavor
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour (for thickening gravy)
  • 2 cups Beef broth (Low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 medium Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder Fresh garlic gives it that extra flavor boost

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper. Form into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and let them rest.
Cooking
  1. Heat an oven-safe skillet on medium-high and brown the patties for 3–4 minutes per side until golden. Remove them from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions with butter for a couple of minutes. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 2 minutes for the gravy base.
  3. Slowly whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream, letting it thicken over medium heat.
  4. Gently nestle the browned patties back into the skillet with the thick gravy.
  5. Cover tightly with a lid or aluminum foil and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 15 minutes.
Serving
  1. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can prep the patties ahead of time and store them in the fridge for up to 24 hours. If your gravy is too thick, add a splash more broth or cream. Try adding some chopped fresh herbs for extra flavor.
