Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
- In a big bowl, mix the ground beef, finely diced onion, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce by hand until it holds together.
- Shape the mixture into thick patties, then sear each patty in a skillet over medium heat until browned on both sides.
Assembling and Baking
- Arrange the browned patties in the greased baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, cream (or milk), and the extra 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, then pour over the patties.
- Top each patty with shredded cheese.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes, until cooked through and gravy bubbles.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
Notes
Mix patties ahead and refrigerate for 20 minutes before cooking. For watery gravy, mix cornstarch with cold water and stir it into the sauce before baking further. Add a spoonful of Dijon mustard for extra flavor.
