Preparation
- Soften the cream cheese by placing it in a medium mixing bowl. Make sure it’s at room temperature. If it needs a little help, microwave for 15-20 seconds—just avoid melting it!
- Add the sour cream to bring that tangy flavor into the mix.
- Sprinkle in the garlic powder and onion powder to give it some extra depth.
- Blend the cream cheese and sour cream together until it’s smooth and creamy, using a hand mixer or a spatula. Don’t forget to scrape the sides to catch all the goodness.
- Fold in the crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar cheese, saving a bit of each to sprinkle on top later. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper to your liking.
Assembly
- Grab a large serving platter or baking dish and lay down a generous base of Doritos, breaking some chips if needed to cover the bottom.
- Spoon over a hearty amount of the cream cheese mixture, spreading it evenly across the chips.
- Add another layer of Doritos on top of the cream cheese, and keep layering until you run out of ingredients. Aim for two layers for maximum deliciousness.
- Sprinkle your reserved crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar on top, along with optional green onions for a pop of color.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover your dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake for about 15-20 minutes to warm everything through and melt the cheese until bubbly.
- Finally, remove the foil and let it bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the top is golden and delightful.
Serving
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
If you have leftovers, consider making a delicious wrap or a layered salad with greens. You can prepare and refrigerate it ahead of time and then bake on the day. Freezing is not recommended; it's best fresh out of the oven.
