Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 pieces sub rolls or Italian hoagie buns For a crustier roll, consider baking your own.
  • 8 slices salami Freshly sliced deli meat adds juiciness.
  • 8 slices pepperoni
  • 8 slices ham or capicola
  • 4 slices provolone cheese Provolone melts beautifully under heat.
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Shred for even melt.
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 small tomato, thinly sliced Optional for freshness.
  • 2 tbsp Italian dressing or olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper To taste.
  • Butter for spreading Use unsalted butter to control salt.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Split the rolls and brush the insides with a thin layer of butter.
  3. Layer salami, pepperoni, and ham or capicola evenly across each roll.
  4. Add provolone slices on top of the meats, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella.
  5. Season with oregano, a pinch of salt, and a grind of pepper.
Baking
  1. Place the filled subs on a baking sheet and bake for 10–15 minutes until the cheese melts and the roll edges turn golden.
  2. Remove from the oven, drizzle with Italian dressing, and top with shredded lettuce and tomato slices.
  3. Cut in half and serve warm.

Notes

Assemble ahead and refrigerate for up to 2 hours. Don’t overstuff; cut meat slightly smaller to close the roll easily. Add red pepper flakes or chopped fresh basil for extra flavor.
