Ingredients

For the Pudding Base
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 oz)
For the Whipped Cream
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Assembly
  • 3 to 4 ripe bananas, sliced Choose bananas that are ripe but firm for the best texture.
  • 2 cups vanilla wafers Whole or crushed; both work beautifully!

Method

Preparation of Pudding Base
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cold milk and instant vanilla pudding mix for about 2 minutes until thickened.
Preparation of Whipped Cream
  1. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
Combine Pudding and Cream
  1. Gently fold half or all of the whipped cream into the pudding to create an airy, mousselike consistency.
Assembly of Cups
  1. In clear dessert cups or jars, layer vanilla wafers, then banana slices, and top with the pudding mixture. Repeat until cups are filled, finishing with pudding on top.
Chill Before Serving
  1. Cover and refrigerate the cups for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

To speed up assembly, prepare the pudding mixture and whipped cream a day ahead. If bananas begin to brown, toss them lightly in lemon juice. Consider adding a splash of caramel sauce for a twist!
