Ingredients

Frosting Base
  • 3 sticks salted butter, at room temperature Salted butter adds a rich flavor.
  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp heavy cream, at room temperature Use room temperature cream for easier blending.
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract The secret ingredient that rounds out the flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. First, grab your stand mixer with the paddle attachment or a large bowl with a hand mixer.
  2. Beat the butter on medium-high speed until it’s creamy and light—this should take about 2 minutes.
  3. Reduce the speed to low and add half of the powdered sugar. Mix until just combined to avoid a sugar cloud!
  4. Pour in the heavy cream and mix to incorporate until smooth.
  5. Add the vanilla extract next and mix well.
  6. Slowly add the remaining powdered sugar, mixing until everything is combined.
  7. Increase the speed to medium-high and beat for about 3 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy.
  8. Check the consistency; it should be smooth and spreadable. Adjust with more cream or powdered sugar as needed.
  9. Taste the frosting and adjust the vanilla if needed.

Notes

Make the frosting ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to 5 days. It can also be frozen for up to a month. Allow to thaw in the fridge overnight and whip again to restore texture.
