  • 2 tbsp Milk To get the perfect glaze consistency.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 15x10x1-inch baking pan.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt, then gradually add to the creamed mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Spread 3 cups of the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  7. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the batter.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the cherry filling.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the bars cool completely on a wire rack.
Glazing
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and milk until smooth.
  2. Once the bars are cooled, drizzle the glaze evenly over the top and let it set before cutting into squares.

Notes

For a time-saving trick, use canned cherry pie filling. If your batter gets too thick, add a splash of milk to loosen it up. Consider adding chopped nuts or a sprinkle of cinnamon for an extra pop of flavor.
