Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound flank steak, sliced thin
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce use low-sodium if you prefer less salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch this gives the sauce a silky, glossy finish
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil neutral oil for searing and tossing
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced fresh garlic gives it that extra flavor boost
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated adds bright, warm notes
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil adds a toasty, nutty finish
  • Cooked rice for serving jasmine or short-grain rice works beautifully

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) to warm the pan and help the broccoli caramelize.
  2. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, cornstarch, vegetable oil, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. Stir until the cornstarch dissolves and the mixture looks slightly glossy.
  3. Add the sliced beef to the marinade and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Spread the broccoli on a baking sheet and add the marinated beef on top, arranging everything in a single layer.
  2. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until the beef is cooked through and broccoli is tender.
  3. Serve over cooked rice, spooning any pan juices over the rice.

Notes

For a quick dinner idea: slice the steak while slightly frozen for easier handling. If the sauce is too thin after baking, simmer in a saucepan to thicken. Add rice vinegar or honey for a twist, or serve in a wrap with crunchy slaw.
