  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk Ensure it's not too hot.
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted Using unsalted butter helps control the salt.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Filling Ingredients
  • 1 cup crushed chocolate cookies
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Icing Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Extra cookie crumbles for topping

Method

Preparation
  1. Combine warm milk and yeast in a bowl and set aside for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembly
  1. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread crushed chocolate cookies and chocolate chips over the surface.
  2. Tightly roll the dough from one end to the other and slice into rolls.
  3. Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden.
  2. While baking, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk together until smooth.
  3. Drizzle icing over warm rolls and top with extra cookie crumbles before serving.

Notes

Prepare the dough the night before and let it rise in the fridge overnight. Ensure milk is warm, not hot, when adding yeast. You can swap crushed chocolate cookies for crushed peppermint candies for a festive twist.
