Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Use unsalted butter so you can control the salt.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar This helps create that perfect sweet balance.
  • 2 large eggs They bind everything together beautifully.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract A splash of vanilla adds warmth and depth of flavor.
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder The heart of our chocolatey treat!
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Just enough to give them structure.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt A hint of salt makes the sweetness pop.
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder A little lift in every bite.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional) Because who doesn’t love extra chocolate?

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar, stirring it together until smooth and glossy.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually add your dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  2. Let cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

For a time-saving trick, use a microwave to melt the butter instead of the stovetop. If overbaked, drizzle melted chocolate on top to restore moisture. Consider adding a pinch of sea salt on top before baking for a sweet-and-salty combination.
