Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and grease your muffin pan or line it with paper liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gently stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
Baking
  1. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Let the muffins cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Topping
  1. While muffins are still warm, brush each top with melted butter, then roll or dip them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.

Notes

You can make the batter the night before. If you accidentally overmix, allow the batter to rest before filling the cups. For variations, consider adding chocolate chips or blueberries.
