Ingredients

For the Crumble Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
For the Filling
  • 2 1/2 lb Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (about 6 to 7 cups) Use the freshest apples you can find; their tartness is what makes this crumble shine!
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch or all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Topping: In a bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and mix until crumbly.
  3. Toss the Apples: In a large bowl, toss chopped Granny Smith apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch (or flour), salt, and cinnamon until well coated.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Assemble: Pour the apple mixture into a baking dish and spread it out evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples.
  2. Bake: Place it in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the aroma fills your kitchen.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or freshly whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat to regain crispy topping.
