  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Fluff it up for lightness!
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder For that perfect rise.
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda To give it a little boost.
  • ½ teaspoon salt Just enough for balance.
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter Adds this delicious flavor.
  • 1 large egg Room temperature, helps blend everything smoothly.
  • cups buttermilk Room temperature makes a tender crumb.
  • 3 tablespoons softened butter For creaminess.
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon Warm and spicy!
Streusel Topping
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour For the streusel.
  • ½ cup brown sugar For that sweet depth.
  • ½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar Adds richness.
  • ¼ cup butter, cubed For a crumblier topping.
  • ½ tablespoon cinnamon Because you can never have too much!
  • teaspoon salt Just a pinch!
Glaze
  • ½ cup powdered sugar For that final sweet touch.
  • teaspoons milk To thin out the icing.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Grease and line a 9x9-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, the room temperature egg, and the buttermilk.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
Layering
  1. Pour half of the batter into the prepared dish.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, brown sugars, and a little cinnamon for the streusel filling.
  3. Work in the cubes of butter until crumbly.
  4. Sprinkle half of the streusel over the batter, top with the remaining cake batter, and finish with the rest of the streusel.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Let it cool slightly, then mix the powdered sugar, milk, and a pinch of salt for the glaze.
  3. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cake.

Notes

Use a pre-packaged streusel mix to save time. If the cake sinks in the middle, it might be due to overmixing. Add nuts or chocolate chips to the batter for a personal touch.
