Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Grease and line a 9x9-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, the room temperature egg, and the buttermilk.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
Layering
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix the flour, brown sugars, and a little cinnamon for the streusel filling.
- Work in the cubes of butter until crumbly.
- Sprinkle half of the streusel over the batter, top with the remaining cake batter, and finish with the rest of the streusel.
Baking
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let it cool slightly, then mix the powdered sugar, milk, and a pinch of salt for the glaze.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm cake.
Notes
Use a pre-packaged streusel mix to save time. If the cake sinks in the middle, it might be due to overmixing. Add nuts or chocolate chips to the batter for a personal touch.
