Ingredients

For the pie
  • 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk Use a good brand.
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter Use unsalted butter for better control of salt.
  • 1 cup chopped pecans Toast lightly for more flavor.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Packed lightly for a richer taste.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
For serving
  • optional vanilla ice cream Pairs beautifully with the pie.
  • optional powdered sugar For dusting.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fit the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate, pressing it gently along the bottom and sides.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, eggs, melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth and glossy.
  4. Stir in the chopped pecans.
  5. Pour the filling into the prepared crust and arrange pecan halves on top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 50–60 minutes until the edges are golden and the center is set.
  2. Let the pie cool fully on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

You can toast pecans beforehand for better flavor. If the crust browns too fast, cover edges with foil halfway through baking. To make mini tarts, use the same filling.
