Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or turkey with the diced onion and minced garlic over medium heat. Stir often until the onion softens.
Sauce and Mixing
- Stir in the marinara sauce and let simmer for a few minutes, then season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning if desired.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, meat sauce, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix well.
Assembly and Baking
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch casserole dish and spread it out evenly.
- Top with the remaining mozzarella and the grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges turn lightly golden.
- Garnish with fresh basil if desired before serving.
Notes
Time-saver: Brown the meat while the pasta water comes to a boil. For a flavor twist, stir in a handful of chopped spinach or roasted red peppers.
