Ingredients

For the Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted For incredible richness
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Adds that intense chocolate flavor
  • 1 cup Coca Cola Not diet; gives the cake a lovely moisture
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk Makes it extra tender
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Frosting
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder For luscious frosting consistency
  • 6 tablespoons Coca Cola To enhance frosting flavor
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar Sweet, fluffy goodness
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Just like love, you can never have too much!

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan and set it aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, cocoa powder, and Coca Cola. Stir continuously until the butter melts and the mixture comes to a gentle boil.
  4. Pour the warm chocolate mixture over the dry ingredients and stir until smooth. Add the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract, and mix until fully combined.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the greased pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Notes

Store the cake in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days. If freezing, wrap well in plastic wrap then foil. Use a slice to make a chocolate cake shake with ice cream and milk for a fun leftover idea.
