Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter Use unsalted butter so you can control the salt.
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder A key to that rich chocolate flavor!
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 large cold eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup chopped walnuts, pecans, or chocolate chips Optional; add if you want a crunchy bite!

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (162 degrees C) and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat until it starts to bubble softly.
  3. Stir in the sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt until well blended.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then add the eggs one at a time, stirring vigorously.
  5. Beat in the flour until thickened and combined, then fold in any nuts or chocolate chips if desired.
Baking
  1. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for about 20 to 30 minutes.
  2. Check for fudgy doneness; look for a slight jiggle in the center when giving the pan a gentle shake.
  3. Let brownies cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.

Notes

Time-saving trick: You can melt the butter in the microwave in 30-second bursts. For storage, keep brownies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
