Ingredients

For the Beef and Gravy
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean for less grease
  • 1 cup beef broth Homemade if possible for extra flavor
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour For thickening the gravy
  • 1 medium onion, diced Adds sweetness and depth
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic gives it extra flavor
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter Use unsalted to control the salt level
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes Homemade or store-bought is fine
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish Adds color and freshness

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Stir it up, breaking it apart until it’s browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Toss in the diced onion and minced garlic. Let them cook for another 3-4 minutes, until the onion turns translucent and fragrant.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture. Stir well to coat the meat, then slowly pour in the beef broth. Stir as it simmers, watching it thicken into gravy. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Scoop your fluffy mashed potatoes onto plates, and spoon the rich, meaty gravy right on top.
  5. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For time-saving, use pre-made mashed potatoes. If the gravy is too watery, mix more flour with water and stir into the pan until thickened. Add Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce for extra flavor. This dish pairs well with buttery green beans or a fresh salad.
