Preparation
- Mix the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, black pepper, 1 tsp salt, onion powder, minced garlic, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Use your hands to fold gently until just combined.
- Form the mixture into 4 even patties and press a slight dimple in the center of each.
Cooking
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When the oil shimmers, place the patties in the pan and sear for 3–4 minutes per side.
- Remove the patties and set them aside.
- Add the thinly sliced onions to the skillet. Stir and let soften for 5–7 minutes until translucent, then continue cooking until golden.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly pour in the beef broth, whisking until smooth.
- Season the gravy with 1/2 tsp salt. Return the patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and simmer for 10 minutes.
Notes
For a richer gravy, add a splash of heavy cream or a teaspoon of Dijon.
