Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan, a square baking dish, or a cast-iron skillet.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Whisk together until well-blended.
- Create a small well in the center of your dry ingredients. Pour in the oil (or melted butter), the milk, and the cracked egg. Stir gently just until combined, leaving a few lumps.
Baking
- Pour the batter into your prepared pan and bake for about 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Notes
