  • 1 pound ground beef (or 1/2 lb ground Italian sausage and 1/2 lb ground beef)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 Tablespoon dried parsley flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves (optional) Optional for added flavor
Seasoning
  • to taste Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • to taste Crushed red pepper flakes Optional for spice
For Serving
  • Spaghetti noodles For serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Season the meat by sprinkling salt and pepper over the ground beef or sausage-beef mix.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, brown the seasoned beef and chopped onion together until the beef is browned, draining excess grease.
  2. Stir in the tomato sauce and tomato paste, followed by the Italian seasoning, parsley, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, Worcestershire sauce, and sugar.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil and add one cup of water, stirring to combine.
  4. Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. If desired, add fresh basil just before serving.

Notes

For quick prep, consider making a double batch and freeze half for later. If the sauce tastes too acidic, add a bit more sugar to balance it.
