Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef (80/20) Use 80/20 beef for flavor and juiciness.
  • 1 large onion (chopped) Chop finely for even cooking.
  • 1 tsp minced garlic Fresh garlic provides a bigger flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Shred your own for a melty texture.
  • 1 cup milk Room temperature mixes better.
  • 2 tbsp onion soup mix
  • 0.5 cup Bisquick Can be substituted with flour and baking powder.
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature) Ensures smoother mixing.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly spray a 9-inch baking dish.
  2. Brown the ground beef with chopped onion and minced garlic in a skillet over medium-high heat. Stir and break up the meat until it sizzles and is no longer pink, and drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Sprinkle in the onion soup mix and stir until the mixture thickens slightly.
  4. Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, pressing it down to form a compact layer.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef.
  6. Whisk the milk, Bisquick, and eggs together until smooth. Pour the batter gently over the beef and cheese.
Cooking
  1. Bake the pie for 35–40 minutes until the top is golden and the center springs back slightly when touched.
  2. Let the pie rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a variation, add a dash of smoked paprika or chopped pickles for a little bite. Store covered in the fridge for 3-4 days, or freeze tightly wrapped for up to 2 months.
