Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 lb Ground Beef Opt for lean beef to keep the dish healthier without sacrificing flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Red Onion Sweetness from the onion enhances the sauce’s overall taste.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Fresh garlic brings aromatic depth that jarred options can’t match.
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce The key ingredient adds umami flavor that’s essential for the dish.
  • 1/4 cup Honey This sweetness beautifully balances the savory elements.
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil For sautéing the ingredients.
  • 2-3 cups Beef Broth To cover the pasta during cooking.
  • 2-3 cups Water To cover the pasta during cooking.
Spices
  • 1 tsp Ground Cumin
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • to taste Red Pepper Flakes Optional for adding heat.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil until shimmering.
  2. Add the chopped red onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened and translucent.
  3. Stir in the ground beef, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  4. Stir in minced garlic, ground cumin, paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Lower the heat to medium, then stir in soy sauce, honey, and chili paste. Mix well to coat the beef.
Cooking
  1. Add the uncooked pasta to the skillet, pour in beef broth, and add water to cover the pasta. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  2. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-12 minutes until pasta is al dente and most liquid has absorbed, creating a silky sauce.
  3. Adjust seasoning, and cook uncovered for a couple of minutes if the sauce is too thick.

Notes

Don't overcrowd the pan to help the beef brown properly. Have all ingredients ready before starting to speed up the cooking process. Adjust seasoning before serving to ensure the right balance of sweet and savory.
