  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Gives that caramelized sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce Use your favorite for an extra kick.
  • 1 tablespoon mustard Dijon or yellow mustard will do.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Always better to season to your liking.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon until crispy.
  3. Remove the bacon and set it aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  4. Sauté the diced onion in the bacon drippings until soft and translucent.
Combining Ingredients
  1. In a large bowl, combine the baked beans, cooked bacon, sautéed onion, brown sugar, BBQ sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  2. Stir until thoroughly mixed.
Cooking
  1. Pour the mixture into a baking dish.
  2. Bake for 30-40 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  3. Serve warm.

Notes

Use precooked bacon to save time. If beans thickened too much, add a splash of water or broth. Consider adding jalapeños for heat or bell peppers for color.
