Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer on high until light and fluffy.
- Add in the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until fully incorporated.
- Add the flour and salt; blend until a soft dough forms.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Gently press your thumb into the center of each ball twice to form a heart-shaped indent.
Baking
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Once completely cooled, spoon a small dollop of jam into each heart-shaped center.
Notes
Chill dough for 10 minutes to prevent sticky hands. If indents puff up during baking, press again while warm. Optional: Add 1/4 tsp cinnamon or lemon zest for variations.
