Ingredients

Cookie Dough Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup Unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup Lightly packed brown sugar Softens faster if sifted
  • 1 piece Egg Room temp mixes smoothly
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract Pure gives best flavor
  • 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour Measure with spoon and level
  • 1/4 tsp Salt Balances the sweetness
Jam Filling
  • 1/4 cup Jam of choice Seedless for smooth centers

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer on high until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until fully incorporated.
  4. Add the flour and salt; blend until a soft dough forms.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Gently press your thumb into the center of each ball twice to form a heart-shaped indent.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  2. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  3. Once completely cooled, spoon a small dollop of jam into each heart-shaped center.

Notes

Chill dough for 10 minutes to prevent sticky hands. If indents puff up during baking, press again while warm. Optional: Add 1/4 tsp cinnamon or lemon zest for variations.
