Valentine's Day Muddy Buddies

For the Muddy Buddies
  • 7 cups Chex cereal (divided) Light, holds coating well.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (divided) Fine coating, no clumps.
  • 1 cup pink candy melts Use microwave-safe bowl.
  • 1 cup red candy melts Use microwave-safe bowl.
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil Thins melts for smooth coating.
  • 1 cup Valentine's Day M&Ms Add once mixture is set.
  • 2-4 tbsp Valentine's Day sprinkles Add last for color and crunch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Divide the 7 cups Chex cereal into two separate bowls.
  2. Microwave the pink candy melts with 1 tsp vegetable oil in 30-second bursts, stirring between, until silky and smooth.
  3. Pour the pink melt over one bowl of Chex and gently fold with a spatula until every piece is coated.
  4. Place the coated cereal into a zip-top bag, add 1/2 cup powdered sugar, seal, and shake until dusted.
  5. Dump onto a wax paper-lined baking sheet and spread out.
  6. Repeat the melting, pouring, folding, and sugar-shaking with the red candy melts and the remaining Chex.
  7. Let both colors set for about 30 minutes at room temperature.
  8. Fold in the Valentine’s Day M&Ms and sprinkles.
  9. Taste one to check texture.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 5-7 days. Freeze in a sealed bag for up to 1 month; thaw before serving. If it softens, spread on a baking sheet and air-dry at room temp for 30 minutes.
