Ingredients
  

For the Apple Filling
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples Sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Divided: 1/2 cup for filling and 1/2 cup for topping
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon Essential for flavor
For the Crust and Topping
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crust Store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For the crumble topping
  • 1/2 cup cold butter Grated or diced for topping

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the sliced Granny Smith apples with 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate, fluting or crimping the edges.
  4. Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared pie crust.
Crumble Topping
  1. In a small bowl, mix together the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and all-purpose flour.
  2. Grate the cold butter into the mixture or cut into small cubes, and work it in until it resembles small peas.
  3. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the top of the apples.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes until the apples are tender and the crumble is golden brown.
  2. Cover with foil if the top browns too much. Let cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

For best results, let the pie cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
